Maxi Dresses – Maximum Style

The caftan or muumuu has returned, only this time we call it couture. Isn’t it funny how fashion cycles? This season’s dresses are called Maxi’s, go to the floor and everyone is wearing them. They come with straps, without straps, in prints or solids and look great on all body shapes and sizes. You can find them in almost every fabric type as well. The Maxi dress is all about comfort, style, romance and femininity. A long and flowing dress just feels feminine when you are wearing it.
So what do you look for when picking out a Maxi?
-Think understated and neutral when looking for a Maxi dress. This will most likely end up being one of your summer staples so you want it to be able to coordinate with a lot of your other clothing items.
-The dress should be comfortable and accentuate the body parts that you want to accentuate. You can find an empire waist dress if you are a little larger on the bottom. Smaller on top? Then opt for a halter or bathing suit style to add a little volume.

-Try to avoid the larger prints. You will not get as much wear out of it once everyone has seen the pattern and you may end up looking like you stole someone’s drapes.
-The dress should be around ankle length. Anything longer and you may be tripping over it. Anything shorter and it may not have the desired, flowing effect.
-Look for a dress that is well cut. Your Maxi should fit closely to your proportions instead of tenting out over your body. This is especially helpful for petite women.
-Keep the shoes simple. After all, they really will not be seen much anyway. Opt for flip flops, sandals or espadrilles.
-Keep accessories to a minimum. Add a few simple bangles and chic bag to complete your look.
-Dress your dress up for evening by adding some heels and a cocktail ring plus clutch.
Try on several dresses when shopping and make certain that you do not get lost in the fabric. Most of all your Maxi dress should make you feel good when you have it on. This could easily become my favorite ‘go to’ outfit for the summer.
