My son hasn't gone to a sleep away camp yet. He goes to a day camp for a month during the summer (half days, Monday - Thursday) put on by the dept. of disabilities and special needs in our school district. We are considering a sleep away camp that isn't too far away from here for next year though!

You are a brave mama for considering sleep away camp, Coley. I'll definitely let my daughter go, but I know I'll probably shed more than a few tears when she does.

Oh, believe me, there will be tears!!! And probably more tears from me than from my son. But I went to sleep away camp as a child and have fond memories of it and I want my son to experience those if at all possible.

The camp we are considering has a really awesome staff. I have a friend who went their as a child, then became a counselor, and now she's on the board there so I feel really comfortable with sending him there. Doesn't mean I won't cry every day he's there though!!
