Family Movie Night

One of the most popular (and most often voted as favorite) family activities among families across America is the family movie night. Families of all sizes and all ages can come together weekly or monthly to spend some quality time together curled up watching family friendly movies. Once you have your family gathered and the movie selected, add some great snacks, favorite drinks and warm cozy blankets and you’ll be all set for a fun filled family movie night!

Make choosing the movie part of the fun filled night. Call a family meeting a few days before movie night to discuss movie selections. Mom and Dad have ultimate veto power, but let the kids have their say as well. Ask each family member to contribute one movie that they would really like to watch and they feel that the family would enjoy as a whole. Once you have a list of movies, you can go down the list in age order and watch each movie at its own subsequent movie night. Your other option is to compile all of the requested movies and vote as a family on which one you will watch at the next movie night. For a budget friendly movie night, check which movies will be playing on television, which ones you can borrow from friends and which ones are available at your local library.

Before the movie is scheduled to start, encourage your family members to get into their pajamas or comfy lounging clothes. Have everyone bring blankets, pillows and any soft, comfortable chairs to relax in. If your family consists of little ones, you may want to have an early family movie night. If this is the case in your home, why not incorporate a picnic dinner into your movie night? Throw a blanket on the floor and serve dinner right on the floor for you all to enjoy as you watch the movie. Pop some popcorn, have drinks ready for everyone and settle in to enjoy your night together.
