Winter Family Fun on Broadway

Who says fun in the Big Apple dies once the holidays are over?

After White Christmas this winter and before 9 to 5 next spring, Broadway’s Marquis Theatre will host the phenomenal Soul of Shaolin-- the very same Chinese martial arts extravaganza featured at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The show stars nearly three-dozen performers from China telling the tale of a boy named Hui Guang who is raised by monks and who becomes a master of Shaolin Kung Fu, a type of martial arts that celebrates not only the physical but also the spiritual.

Soul of Shaolin is booked for a 24-performance engagement at the Marquis beginning January 13th and it’s run will coincide with the Chinese New Year, January 26th, which happens to be the Year of the Ox.

Then, in February kids take center stage on Broadway.

Kids Night On Broadway, in which theatergoers ages 6-18 can see a Broadway show when accompanied by a full-paying adult, will now become a year-round program, beginning with performances on February 3rd and 4th. In addition, comedian, actress, and former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell will once again serve as the program’s national ambassador.

To take advantage of the popular program you must attend shows on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of each month. Tickets are currently on sale for the February performances.  Meanwhile, future tickets will go on sale two months prior to the event date.

Participating shows include: The American Plan, Avenue Q, Billy Elliot The Musical, Chicago, Grease, Gypsy, In The Heights, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, Shrek The Musical, The 39 Steps, Wicked, and Young Frankenstein, along with the long-running Off-Broadway hits Altar Boyz and Stomp.

If you plan to make it out on February 3rd be aware that there will be a special pre-theater party for all ticketholders at 3 p.m. at Madame Tussauds New York, and another one at 3 p.m. on February 4th at the Maravel Arts Center.
