Scream into Halloween

Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without a spooky movie to scare your pants off, right?  Take a look at some of these creepy classics and you’ll see why they are still popular among horror movie fans decades after their release:

“Dawn of the Dead”

This 1970s zombie classic was directed by George Romero and continues to be one of the most requested horror films around.  It is a sequel to the equally spooky “Night of the Living Dead,” but includes more screams, chills and blood.  In fact, some of the goriest scenes ever committed to film are featured in this movie, which is why the film was banned in 17 countries.

“The Thing”

Scary doesn’t do this movie justice.  You will be on the edge of your seat (if not behind the couch) during much of this flick that follows an ailen-stalked crew stationed at an Antarctic base.  No one knows which member of the crew is the alien and things get trickier when the creature begins its stomach churning transformations.

“Saw”

One look at this 1980s film and you know why it was initially rated NC-17.  After some re-editing the movie was releaed in theaters and viewers watched as two men held captive by a serial killer tried to escape.  This dark film is heavy on the pyscho stuff and strays from the slasher flick clichés, though it is still packed with gory scenes.

“Scream”

Wes Craven set the bar high with the original “Scream.” (“Scream 2” and “Scream 3” were mere attempts to recreate the big screen magic featured in his first foray into the horror flick genre.) You don’t want to watch this movie when you are home alone.  While it doesn’t have ghosts, ghouls, ailens or slimy swamp things it still has its share of monsters (of the human variety).
