Scream-a-Minute Big Screen Favorites
There’s little you can do to stifle your screams when watching the following horror flicks. From freaks to aliens and everything in between the chilling characters depicted in these frightening films will have you clinging to the person next to you or running for cover depending on how easily you scare.
“Freaks”
This 1930s classic is not dripping with blood and guts. Instead, the scary plot features real life human “freaks” (like “chicken woman”), who essentially play themselves. The chills come from the scary scenes when the freaks seek revenge on the people, who make them feel like outcasts.
“The Thing”
This 1982 thriller is loosely based on Howard Hawks’ 1951 sci-fi Cold War allegory. The movie follows a group of scientists at the South Pole (led by Kurt Russell) as they deal with the invasion of an alien that assumes the bodies of its victims in decidedly disgusting ways. There’s gore, goop and a myriad of messy moments, but no scene is more memorable (and disturbing) than watching teddy bear of an actor Wilford Brimley go insane.

“The Evil Dead”
At first glance you might consider “The Evil Dead” as a run-of-the-mill horror flick featuring a group of innocents in the woods who turn out to be prey for a demonic killer. But if you examine the film closer you will see the makings of a template for a generation of horror filmmakers, thanks in large part to the use of racing tracking shots that come when a cameraman runs like heck out of the woods with his camera in tow.
“The Hitcher”
This 1986 scream-a-minute flick features a seductive psychopath (played by the sexy Jennifer Jason Leigh), who spends much of her on-screen time terrorizing a little boy and his sidekick. It’s a violent movie filled with blood, threats and vulgarity—perfect for a Halloween party.
