More Tot Rock Favorites for the Juice Box Crowd

I have to admit that I am pretty into the tot rock scene. I love a good concert with the juice box crowd. They hold their pacifiers up instead of lighters but the vibe is the same. I know who the major players are and I know the words to a lot of their songs. I actually know these musicians by sight as well as by sound. Yikes, I am officially a Tot Mommy Rocker.
It all began several years ago for me in my quest to find alternatives to the everyday kids music that seemed to be available. What was being offered did not seem to be too different than the songs that I grew up with; the same songs sung perhaps a little differently but nothing too out of the ordinary. Then someone in my mom’s group planned an outing for a tot rock concert and the rest was history. I could not get enough.

I made it my mission to find new musician’s and musical experiences for my children. We went to concerts; outdoors, indoors and in nightclubs but during the day, of course. My kids have danced on stage, had CD’s and t-shirts signed and have even gone backstage. Granted it was to meet Snap, Krackle and Pop of the Rice Krispies with Ralph’s World but they have still experienced more in the tot rock world than I have ever experienced in the adult rock world. I have never been backstage. I am a little jealous.
Here are reviews of some of our favorite tot rock bands:
Laurie Berkner: The Laurie Berkner band started on Noggin and my kids can never seem to get enough of her soothing voice. She was really one of the first tot rock bands to draw the parents in as well. Sometimes I find myself singing her songs when the kids aren’t even around.
They Might Be Giants: They sang the Malcolm in the Middle theme song and a whole lot more. They are another band that kind of fell into kids music and are doing an amazing job at it.
Dan Zanes: Crazy hair and even crazier songs make Dan Zanes a favorite in our family.
Lisa Loeb: I loved listening to her years ago and this coffeehouse hipster has my children enamored as well. I even like her black turtlenecks and black glasses.
Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players: Justin, a dead ringer for a younger Bill Gates, and his band play sort of a catchy folk music that you cannot help but hum along to.
