Ways to Store and Organize your Ribbon

I love ribbon and have lots and lots of ribbon. There are so many different uses for ribbon, but as I began acquiring various types, colors, and styles of ribbon, I realized I needed some storage solutions to keep my ribbon looking great and I needed to get organized so I could easily find what I was looking for and not waste time looking at every spool of ribbon I owned.

Originally, I just had my ribbon all stuffed into a plastic basket. That worked for awhile but as I began buying and using ribbon more often, my ribbon supply quickly outgrew the little plastic basket, so I began looking at other options.
They do have some pretty great wall storage units nowadays that will hold spools of ribbon on dowels. They look neat and it’s easy to just roll off the amount of ribbon you need. My problem with the wall storage is I don’t have a separate room for crafting. So I kept looking and brainstorming for options that would work for me.

Eventually I came up with using boxes. You could use a shoe box but I purchase the photo box as they are often a bit sturdier than a plain old shoe box and they come in pretty colors and patterns too. You can easily turn that photo box into a great ribbon storage container by drilling holes in the sides of the box. Cut a dowel stick to fit inside the box and then slide your spools of ribbon onto the dowel and thread the ribbon through the holes and voila! You have a sensible and functioning ribbon holder. Take it a step further and use multiple boxes to organize the ribbon by color, sizes, or theme.

Creating a sensible and organized storage box for your ribbon will save you time down the road!
