Taking Pictures on Your Family Vacation

It goes without saying that a camera is an absolute must on any vacation. Often, it is the time when families take the most pictures. When film was popular, I used to take dozens of rolls of film with me. Now with the ease of digital, I take extra back up photo cards to make sure that no moment is lost. Here are a few tips to get you on your way to taking some great vacation shots.

If you are using a film camera, be sure and bring plenty of extra film and batteries with you so you don’t need to purchase any during your travels. These items cost considerably more at hot vacation spots than they do at your local discount department store.

Most people travel with their digitals these days, so be sure you bring extra batteries, extra photo storage cards and if your camera is equipped with a rechargeable battery, don’t forget the charger cord.

If you don’t normally use a camera case, now is the perfect time to purchase one. Protect your camera on your vacations by keeping it stored in a case or tote at all times except when in use. This will keep it safe from the weather elements, damage from being dropped or from getting water or sand in it.

Bring a few water proof disposable cameras for the beach or pool shots. Typically you can take these camera’s underwater and get some great shots. If you do any snorkeling or scuba diving, this is a must to get those awesome shots of underwater life.

Hand the camera over to each family member or have them bring an extra along. Allow them to capture some photographs, as each individuals perspective is different. You will get some photographs you might not have thought of getting, and sometimes your child can get the best shot. This is also important so that you appear in the pictures or it is more like you are documenting a vacation for someone else.

When you get all your photographs developed or printed, put them in a special album just for vacations. You can choose to scrapbook them, or you can simply file them into an expandable album. Each time your family takes a vacation, add the photographs to the album and your memories will last a lifetime.
