Homemade Christmas Gifts

With Christmas just around the corner and the economy in its current state, we see a large number of people looking at the option of making homemade Christmas gifts.  While this might seem like cheating, the truth is that homemade gifts are far more treasured since they take time and love to make.  Therefore, if you want to do something extraordinary for the people you love this holiday season, why not make gifts instead of buy them.

A very easy gift idea is the Christmas tree ornament. You can visit your local hobby store and purchase plastic or glass globes for very little money.  Then, choose something special for each recipient to put inside the ornament.  Using craft paint, you can then paint the year and a seasonal message.  Ornaments are used year after year and often, they end up on the tree for as long as the person is around to celebrate this holiday.

Another great homemade gift idea for Christmas is to create a “coupon book” for the kids.  Inside the book would be special coupons for things like “a day at the movies”, “trip to the park”, “baking cookies”, or whatever things your child enjoys most.  With this type of gift, your child can redeem a coupon anytime he or she feels one-on-one time with mom or dad is needed.  Of course, coupon books are also great for spouses with special things such as back rubs, foot massages, candlelight dinner, etc.

Homemade Christmas gifts for neighbors, teachers, the postal worker, and other people you generally buy something small for could include baked goodies.  In addition to actually baking, you could also create cookie jars, which contain all the measured out ingredients for your favorite cookie, all in a single container.  With a ribbon around the lid and the actual recipe written out on a card attached and you have a very special but useful gift.
